Mark Duffin

Mark Duffin is a regular guest of opera companies throughout Europe and the United States. He has appeared with the San Francisco Opera in the title role of Verdi's Don Carlos, the Santa Fe Opera in Bright Sheng’s Madame Mao, Connecticut Opera in the title role of Les Contes d’Hoffmann and as Herod in Salome, Opera Theatre of St. Louis as Bruno Hauptmann in the world premiere of Cary John Franklin’s Loss of Eden, Lyric Opera of Kansas City as Macduff in Macbeth, Eugene Opera as Rodolfo in La Bohиme and Sorg Opera as Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos and Don Josй in Carmen, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni and Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi with Opera Memphis, Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto and Alfredo in La Traviata with the Whitewater Opera, and the Adjutant/Ausruffer in performances and the EMI recording of Kurt Weill’s Die Bьrgschaft with the Spoleto Festival U.S.A. He has performed Chairman Mao in James Robinson’s acclaimed production of Nixon in China for the Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Portland Opera, and Chicago Opera Theater.
In Europe, he has appeared at the Wiener Kammeroper as Peter Quint and the Prologue in Britten’s Turn of the Screw, Vienna’s “Mozart in Schцnbrunn” Festival as Tamino in Die Zauberflцte, Opйra National de Lyon as the Male Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia, Opera National du Rhin in Strasbourg in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette and received critical acclaim for his portrayals of Britten’s Three Parables for Church Performance with that same company.
Last season, he sang Riccardo in Un Ballo in Maschera for Festival Opera and Don Jose for Opera Ontario and made a notabel with New York City Opera as Bonconnion in The Mines of Sulphur. He will return to the New York City Opera this autumn as Don Jose.
Mr. Duffin holds graduate degrees from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and is an alumnus of the Centre de Formation Lyrique at the Opйra National de Paris and the Israel Vocal Arts Institute, Tel Aviv
